Current year is going to be
a challenging year for agriculture.

Climate changes, shipping problems, population growth and other hazards influence the sector.

It is already obvious that El Niño is returning: after a four-year standstill, this powerful climatic phenomenon will peak in the first half of the new year. Climate changes together with global shipping problems set potential risks to food security in the Middle East and Africa.

At the same time, population growth in the MENA region will maintain high demand for grain imports in the future until 2035. Wheat consumption will grow especially strong, facilitated by urbanization, income growth and changes in food culture.

These factors prove agricultural
sector in the MENA region requires both modern insurance solutions and financing of a number of areas.

The main needs are:
• grain trade financing;
• investments in ports, grain terminals, elevators;
• expansion of milling capacities in importing countries.

Another important area is to stimulate
domestic agricultural production and

to larger markets worldwide.
